Former TV personality Bob Wilcot (Ian Carmichael) launches a campaign to win a seat in Parliament at the behest of his uncle (Alastair Sim), who hopes to use the publicity to boost his own financial fortunes. The effort gets complicated when the conservative candidate falls in love with pretty activist opponent Stella Stoker (Patricia Bredin), representing the Labour Party.
