Charles Dickens' The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby was a London sensation when it first appeared - in monthly installments - in 1838-9, captivating readers with its indictment of the injustices of wealth and poverty in Victorian England.
In 1980, the Royal Shakespeare Company presented a nine-hour adaptation of the classic tale, which featured 42 actors playing 250 roles. Hailed by legendary critic Clive Barnes as "one of the greatest theatrical experiences of our time," it won four Tony Awards, including best direction, best actor and best play.
Now A&E Home Video is proud to present the Emmy winning broadcast version of this majestic production digitally remastered for DVD. Roger Rees (Mountains of the Moon, Titanic) stars as Nicholas, and the RSC cast brilliantly captures the wickedness and wonder of Dickens' timeless epic.
